Stalingrad Defenders There are several variants in this set. STR1-4 are Russian infantry STR5-8 are Black Sea Fleet Sailors STR 9-11 are NKVD Elite Scouts STR 12-14 are other unique Russian figures Black Sea Fleet troops were the elite of the Navy. They were raised as guards and distinguished themselves whenever they fought. The sailors retained naval uniforms and caps throughout the war. Stalin's NKVD recruited special men in 1941-1942 with better field skills and local knowledge. They infiltrated enemy lines and both scouted ahead of the main army but also joined partisan units to harass and disrupt the rear area.
