Ensign Alfred Lerch in April of 1945 while piloting a US Navy F4U-1 Corsair fighter aircraft, shot down seven Japanese aircraft during the Battle of Okinawa. As a result of his actions Ensign Lerch was awarded the Navy Cross. This 1/72nd scale die cast model is a faithful reproduction of the aircraft Ensign Lerch flew that day from the Intrepid, CV 11. The Corsair had an 11:1 kill ratio against it's enemies and one even shot down a MiG 15 during the Korean War. Over 12,000 of these aircraft were manufactured and they flew their last combat missions in 1969 in the war between Honduras and El Salvador.
